Harp Circle Music
Sheet Music (for Madison Folk Harp Society use only)
Music for Feb. 8, 2026
More music to come!
Sruthán na nDeor - Nodlaig Ní Bhrollaigh (original version shared by the composer and simplified with fewer ornaments) - hear it played here.
Music for Nov. 9, 2025 - winter holiday (if you own Sylva Woods' 50 Christmas Carols for All Harps, bring that along too in addition to the sheet music below). We are hoping to practice this music and perform in early December (date/time/place TBD).
Solo
Joy to the World - arranged as a jig (arr. Sue Richards)
Angels We Have Heard on High - arranged as a hornpipe, so a dotted rhythm (arr. Sue Richards)
Greensleeves (this freebie from Lauren Scott avoid lever flips - subscribe to her enews to get other freebies)
Jingle Bells (Janet Harbison's arrangement)
In the Bleak Midwinter
God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen
Carol of the Bells
Ding Dong Merrily on High
Ensemble
What Shall I Give the Child in the Manger (2 parts)
We Wish You a Merry Christmas (2 parts)
Silent Night (3 parts)
Kling, Glöckchen (3 parts + full score all available as links on this page just above the screen shot of the sheet music)
Music for Sep. 14, 2025 - music from Scotland or gathered from Rachel Avery's ensemble experience at the 2025 Edinburgh Harp Festival (shared with Wendy Stewart's permission for the harp circle only). If we have time, we might play Bonny at Morn again from the May 4 list.
Solo:
Calum's Road - you can read more about this tune here, and hear it played by the composer here.
Highland Laddie
Iain Ruadh's Lament - one recording is here.
Leaving Lismore - the first page is a simpler version for 26 strings followed by a slightly harder version for a larger lever harp
Looking at a Rainbow through a Dirty Window - hear it played by the composer here. This is the lead sheet Rachel Hair shared, but you can buy her complete arrangement with multiple renditions here, including a harmony part!
Marie's Tune - hear it played by Rachel Hair here, and if you love it, here's where to find her album Hubcaps and Potholes where it's featured. This is a more dense arrangement, so focus on the melody and you can always use the chord names instead of playing the left hand as written (or leave out the left hand).
The Miller O Hirn - hear one example here on fiddle
This next one can be played as a solo, but also works well to play just one hand, especially Variation 1:
A Mhairead Og (To young Margaret)
Ensemble:
In the Snow Where the Deers Are
Streams of Abernethy - to hear the tune and listen to some alternate chords, here is a different harmonization from the sheet music, so you can see how much you can do with this one. The first 3 lines are the melody, and notice you use left hand (L) or right hand (R) in succession for more rapid playing (often called 'coupled hands')
Voodoo Harp - page 1 is more of a solo version, and then the second page had the "lead" part and the last page has the "bass" part for the ensemble. Note the glissando in measure 4 is only on the repeat.
Music for May 4, 2025
